A virus or malware can cause the above .exe file missing or damaged. Unless and until you don’t restore or repair this file you can’t access things on Control Panel. You may overcome this error message by applying any one of the following methods whichever is successful to your:

Method 1: Copy and Paste rundll32.exe file

Copy the rundll32.exe file from working the same OS operated PC and past in corrupted PC. Let us take the case where OS in working PC is in drive c, then

  1. Go to My Computer–>C drive–>WINDOWS–>system32,
  2. There you search the file rundll32 by selecting “R” key of your keyboard until the rundll32 file is seen,
  3. Copy the rundll32 file in the USB drive and remove it,
  4. Now go to the rundll32.exe corrupted PC and go to My Computer–>C drive–> WINDOWS–>system32,
  5. Here you paste the copied rundll32 file,
  6. Now, restart your PC and check it.

Method 2: Repair the Windows installation

If Method 1 is not successful then repair your OS.

  1. Insert your Windows installation disk in the disc drive,
  2. Restart your PC and press any key to boot from the disc drive,
  3. Now when it will ask you if you want to install Windows or repair it, select REPAIR (but, don’t select INSTALL, it will format your drive and lose all your data and need to install all the device drivers),
  4. It will check all the files and replace the corrupted one or whichever needed.

Once, complete you can log on and check it whether the problem solved or not.

Method 3: Re-install the OS and all device drivers

If above the two methods don’t solve your problem, you need to re-install your computer OS with your OS CD and all other device drivers.
