How to Make Your Adobe Reader Read Your PDF Document [ with images ]

Adobe Reader is widely used across the world to view the text of your PDF documents. Most of us do not know that the Adobe Reader has a feature to read out the text of your PDF document which is known as read out loud feature. The read out loud feature is available for the Adobe Reader’s desktop version of version number 6 or more. The function is very helpful for one who does not like to read itself or one who is more comfortable to listen than to read.

Imagine a situation when you have got a book in PDF format and you want someone to read the PDF document then this feature can be used with PC’s loudspeaker or headphone. Have you ever been in that situation? We feel it is very useful and helpful especially for students. You can try out this feature with any PDF document. This process may also be called as text to speech conversion or text to voice conversion of PDF or PDF to speech or voice conversion.

So, how you can make your Adobe Reader read your PDF document or how you can enable the read out loud function of Adobe Reader.

Here, in this article, we try to teach you how you can activate and pause, stop, and deactivate read out loud feature of Adobe Reader in reading the text in the PDF document itself with images in easy steps.

How to Activate Read Out Loud:-

Step 1: Open PDF document

Open your PDF document.

Step 2: Click View Menu

At first click View menu.

Step 3: Go to Read Out Loud Submenu

Go to Read Out Loud option under the view menu which displays another submenu.

Step 4: Select Activate Read Out Loud

Now, select Activate Read Out Loud option to activate the read out loud facility of the Adobe Reader. You can also click keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+Y to activate the same feature.

Step 5: Click View Menu

Again click View tab which displays a menu.

Step 6: Go to Read Out Loud Submenu

Again go to Read Out Loud option under view tab which displays another submenu.

Step 7: Select any one of two Options

Under the submenu of Read Out Loud there are three options highlighted as seen in the above image which are

Deactivate Read Out Loud to deactivate the complete process
Read This Page Only to read the current page of PDF document
Read To End of Document to read till the end of the PDF document

Now, out of last two options, select Read This Page Only option or keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+V to start reading the current page only.

Select Read To End of Document option or keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+B to start reading the complete PDF document.

How to Pause and Resume Read Out Loud:-

Pause:-

After you select Read This Page Only or Read To End of Document option if you want to pause the reading process then 1st click View tab –> go to Read Out Loud and it displays a submenu.

Now, from the submenu, select the Pause option or keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+C to pause the reading of PDF document.

Resume:-

Again, if you want to resume the reading process then 1st click View tab–>go to Read Out Loud and it displays a submenu.

Now, from the submenu, select the Resume option or keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+C to resume the reading process that you have paused.

How to Stop Read Out Loud:-

If you want to stop the Read Out Loud process then 1st click View tab –> go to Read Out Loud and it displays a submenu.

Now, select the Stop option or keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+E to stop the reading process.

How to Deactivate Read Out Loud:-

To deactivate the Read Out Loud function of Adobe Reader, you need to click View tab then go to Read Out Loud and it displays a submenu.

From the above submenu, select Deactivate Read Out Loud option or keyword shortcut Shift+Ctrl+Y to deactivate the Read Out Loud function.
